Lolita the Blue and Gold Macaw
The blue-and gold macaw is an amazing bird. Its stunning appearance is well-known. Its sociable nature makes it a great companion for families. It is also extremely adept at interaction, and can quickly learn new words and tricks.

Lolita's Personality
Macaws make wonderful companion birds. They are intelligent and affectionate. These birds are best suited to families with a variety of members. They are prone to becoming bored and will seek out other ways to entertain themselves when their owners don't interact with them enough. If not properly socialized, macaws can become aggressive and can even bite. It is crucial that boundaries are clearly defined so that the macaw doesn't feel threatened.
Blue and Gold Macaws, in general, are active birds who love to play, interact and climb. They must spend at least 2 to 3-hours every day outside for mental stimulation and physical exercise. They enjoy playing games, learning tricks, and listening to music. They love visiting playgrounds and parks as much as local restaurants and bars. They are not only a great pet but they are also a great pet for children.
These birds can be very loud, despite their adoration for them. They can also be a nuisance to those who live nearby. They can make ear-shattering screeches and loud cries which can be a nuisance to those who live in condos or apartments.
Another interesting characteristic of this particular species is that it is monomorphic meaning males and females are difficult to tell apart. Because of this, the only way to determine sex is via DNA testing. Once the sex of the birds is determined, breeding can begin.
Blue and Gold Macaws, like all pets, require training to learn commands and phrases. This is a long process and the pet's owner must be patient and recognize that this is a tough task. Positive reinforcement can help speed up the process and help to correct any behavior issues.
Lolita's care
For decades, activists have been pleading for Lolita's retirement from performing tricks at Miami Seaquarium and relocation to an open sea pen. After the 1993 hit movie Free Willy stirred public outrage over orca Keiko's reintegration into the wild, activists and marine biologists believed that Lolita might have a similar fate. Sadly, she never had a chance to return to the sea.
The people who are Lolita's captors – the Dolphin Company - have ignored the advice of a veterinarian and continue to put her in danger. They harm her health by forcing her to perform for tourists. They over-exert her with high-speed circles and head-first dives, exposing her to chlorine and cause her to lose weight. They also put her in a tank one-and-a-half times smaller her natural habitat.
Fortunately in 2022 the new owner of Miami Seaquarium pledged to work with an organization of Lolita advocates called Friends of Toki and the Lummi tribe who consider her a relative, on a plan to eventually transport her to open water. The plan included a facility in Washington's westcoast, where she could live the rest of her days, receive human care, and be monitored by scientists. The sanctuary pen would be hundreds of times bigger than her Miami home and surrounded by the ocean itself, not an empty concrete tank.
If the plan had been implemented, Lolita (also known as Tokitae or Toki) could be alive today. In the wild killer whales are highly social animals that are bonded with family members until they die. Lolita has lived isolated at Seaquarium for over 40 years. The nation's most active activists, including Ric O'Barry (former Flipper trainer), Empty The Tanks and Orca Network, have called for her departure from Seaquarium's stage and her eventual release into the wild.

To achieve killer deal has created a teacher training program which is the most comprehensive in the world. The program is called Lolita's Legacy(tm). The first step is System I. Then System II builds on the foundations established in System I, with exercises using the equipment. It also introduces teachers to exercises on the Spine Corrector, Magic Circle, Foam Rollers and Bars. This module comes with a handbook and a DVD that features Lolita teaching you the system.
After you have completed the teacher training program at Lolita, you will be ready to teach the Pilates Method anywhere in the world! Lolita's Diet
Like any species of animal in captivity, a captive gold and blue macaw's well-being is contingent on a healthy diet. These beautiful birds require high-quality food items, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as whole grains. A well-fed macaw in captivity could live up to 60 years. The majestic bird also requires plenty of space to fly and exercise.

The Miami Seaquarium has released a series of updates about Lolita's health and status, but questions remain. Akromas and others who have trained or overseen Lolita's health over time are concerned about her diet. The most recent update on the Friends of Lolita website states that she is eating 115 pounds of salmon, herring, capelin, and squid per day.
Miami Seaquarium, and in particular Lolita is being criticized over the quality of the food they feed to their killer whales. The 57-year old orca was taken from Puget Sound, Washington, in the year 1970. While the species is endangered and is in a tank that some consider to be too small.
Lolita's Health
While her beauty is evident, Lolita's health continues to get worse. Animal welfare groups have expressed concerns about her and wish to see that she is released back into nature. Lolita who has been living at the Miami Seaquarium in Miami since 1970 and has been a major tourist attraction there for decades. She has been battling chronic illnesses and a crippling illness that has left her in a vulnerable condition.
The Dolphin Company, which now is the owner of the Miami Seaquarium and is owned by the Dolphin Company has not provided any details regarding the condition of Lolita. However, the non-profit organization Friends of Toki has provided monthly updates about her health and well-being on their website. These updates show that Toki is ageing rapidly and that her health is declining.
Since her captor doesn't need to reveal this information, it is not clear what specific health issue the orca is suffering from. The Orca Project created a repository of necropsies collected from Sea World. This shows that kidney diseases often play a part in the deaths of orcas in captivity.
Despite the health issues that continue to plague of Lolita, many people are hopeful that she could be closer than ever to living a wild life. The new owner of Seaquarium has stated his commitment to move the whale out of her tank into her native waters in the Pacific.
The move comes following years of public pressure, including from PETA and PETA, to have the Miami Seaquarium release Lolita into a seaside sanctuary where she could swim deep in the ocean, and possibly even reunite with the orca believed to be her mother. These plans came too late to save the beloved whale that died on Friday due to what was thought to be a kidney issue.
